Cora

While they walked the resort grounds late Saturday morning, Kelly’s enthusiasm could not be contained.

“Ooh, look at this place,” she gushed as they walked along one of the ocean-side pools.

It was a balmy day on the shore with a gentle breeze swaying the leaves of the palm trees. The sun shone in a cloudless blue sky, its reflection sparkling on the water’s surface. Gardens of lush tropical flowers added to the ambiance.

“Pretty amazing, isn’t it?” Cora replied.

“It’s absolute paradise, just like you described it. This is unbelievable.” Kelly stared at Cora. “This is where you spend your days off?”

“Yes.”

“You lucky shit,” she teased with a lopsided grin. “No wonder you take off the second you’re free to do so.”

Kelly’s excitement continued once in the room. “A king-sized bed just for me?” She fell backward on it and spread her arms.

Cora laughed. “I did the same thing when I first arrived.”

Kelly rolled onto her side and propped her head up on her arm. “When am I going to meet Mark? I need to thank him.”

“He made reservations for the three of us to go to dinner tonight.” Cora motioned to the window with the view of the sea. “Until then, the place is ours to explore.”

Kelly climbed off the bed and tugged Cora’s arm. “Then let’s explore.” She walked over to the window and glanced down. “Look at that beach. And the pool. Jet skis, snorkeling, scuba. So much to try!” She turned to Cora with wide-eyed enthusiasm. “Where do we start?”

“Your choice,” Cora replied. “We just need to have enough time to get ready for dinner and be at the restaurant at seven.”

Kelly tapped her chin and hmmed. “I think floating in the lazy river with a cocktail is the best way to kick off this little getaway.”

Cora grinned. “I like how you think.”
